Otoplastic hearing protection offers clear advantages compared to standard hearing protection. However:

• The effective attenuation effect considerably depends on its accuracy in shape
• The formation of the ear is changing during a long-term period, therefore the protection effect can decrease after a few years
• BGIA(D) and SUVA (CH) highly recommend an individual control

In order to assure that hearing protection is effective Phonak has developed a special process which controls and documents the effective attenuation effect:

• Measurement device is connected to the ear moulds
• Measurement with mounted hearing protection simultaneously for the right and left ear
• The difference of external and internal sound level is measured for different frequencies
• Automatical evaluation of the measurement results
